报告题目:FEMs with non-uniform approximations for strongly coupled multi-physics systems

报告摘要:
The talk focuses on FEMs for problems involving multi-physics fields, which are often described by nonlinear and strongly coupled parabolic/elliptic systems. A common question in practical computation is how to choose numerical approximations for each component involved in the physical system to achieve the optimality in both accuracy and efficiency. Algorithms with non-uniform approximations are often more
popular in engineering. In this talk, we give a review of numerical analysis for several models including
- Incompressible/compressible miscible flow in porous media,
- Magnetohydrodynamics (MHD),
- Joule heating (thermistor).
For all these models, existing analyses are not optimal for many algorithms with commonly-used non-uniform approximations. Also we present our recent work on optimal error estimates, from which a class of FEMs with different approximation orders are proposed. An efficient and simple recovery technique is introduced to further improve the accuracy of methods.

报告人简介:孙伟伟教授现任职北京师范大学-珠海校区教授和UIC 理工科技学部讲席教授。
加入北京师范大学/UIC前,曾任职香港城市大学数学系教授。孙伟伟教授长期以来从事科学计算,数学建模,矩阵分析等领域的研究, 特别在多物理场耦合的非线性问题的数值算法及理论分析,纺织材料的数学建模和应用,超导体模型的高效数值方法等方面取得一系列成果。孙伟伟教授的研究得到了香港研究资助局和国家自然科学基金的多个项目支持。
